Letter P

We wrapped up letter P this past week and then hit the road to celebrate Easter in Michigan! Rowin (4 1/2) is finally old enough now that he understands the Easter story, so it's been cool to be able to have conversations with him about why we celebrate Easter. I made a set of Resurrection Eggs when he was probably two, but then decided he was too young and never used them. I'm hoping to dig those out in the next day or so to do with him this year. I think I did a post about them in 2014 if you're interested. Anyway, here's what we did over the last week.
Day 1:

  • Bible Story/Memory Verse-We are starting to learn Philippians 2:14-15 "Do everything without complaining or arguing..." Can you guess why this is the verse I chose for my little angel? :)
  • Introduced the letter P
  • Easter Egg Letter Match-Rowin worked on matching the capital and lowercase letters eggs and we gave Rayna all of the letters that Rowin hasn't learned yet. Then Rowin put them all in ABC order.

  • Hop to the Pond Game-This is a nice, simple game for recognizing beginning letter sounds. The directions are printed on the free printable from www.thisreadingmama.com.

  • Easter Masks-These were just for fun. The kids colored them with markers-I know, serious coloring skills, right! :)

Photo bombed.

Day 2:
  • Bible Story/Memory Verse
  • Reviewed A-P flashcards
  • Block Letter
    • Rowin traced it with his finger and then filled it with little foam squares.

  • Writing-On our little chalkboard, we did "Wet, Dry, Write."
    • I modeled a P, saying "Big line down, frog jump, little curve."
    • Rowin erased it with a wet paper towel, saying the verbal prompt.
    • He erased it with a dry paper towel, saying the verbal prompt.
    • Then he wrote one himself.
    • Next, we repeated the whole process for lowercase p.
    • He didn't feel like doing his workbook today, so we skipped it.
  • Easter Basket Letter Match
    • I put all of the letters from an alphabet puzzle in an Easter basket. Rowin pulled out the letters and put them in the right spot on the puzzle.

Toddler Activity: Not exactly sure what was going on here-a combo of foam squares, measuring spoons, and animal puzzle pieces, but whatever it was kept her busy the whole time Rowin was working! :)

Day 3:
  • Bible Story/Memory Verse
  • Reviewed A-P
  • Cutting Practice-He had to start at each animal and cut along the lines to the pond.

  • Name Practice-Rowin painted his name with watercolors today. Still not great at spacial planning (if that's a thing) so he squeezed the last two letters in at the bottom.

  • Parrot Craft

Have a wonderful Easter celebrating the resurrection of our Savior! He is risen!!

Letter O

We've finally been having some nice weather, so we pretty much scrapped school for a while to be outside. We chipped away here and there at letter O and it took us a couple weeks, but we finally finished! Here's what we did...

Day 1:

  • Bible Story/Memory Verse
  • Reviewed A-N flashcards and introduced O
  • Letter Maze

Free printable here
  • Water Wow-We love these! The paintbrush is filled with water, which makes the colors on the page magically appear and there's no mess! Rayna did the animal one and Rowin worked on the Letter one

  • Orbeez-these are really fun too! You put them in water and they grow into squishy little water beads. Rowin made an O out of the Orbeez and then just had fun playing with them. :)

Day 2:
  • Bible Story/Memory Verse
  • A-O flashcards
  • Block Letter
    • Traced with his finger and filled with Cheerios

Free printable here
  • Writing-We worked on our big chalkboard today. Rowin practiced tracing and writing capital and lowercase O's. Then he worked on a page in his workbook.

Day 3:
  • Bible Story/Memory Verse
  • Reviewed A-O flashcards
  • Dot Marker Page
Free printable here

  • Octopus Craft-Rowin glued on all of the parts and then added Cheerios to all of the tentacles. :)

Toddler Activity-Rayna has been diggin stickers lately, so she stayed pretty occupied with stickers and markers.
